I'm Going Away For Thanksgiving

I just wanted make sure that all my friends know that I am going to go to my sister's house on Tuesday, and I won't be back until Saturday. She lives in Ohio with her husband and 2 kids. So, I'm going to spend Thanksgiving with my sister, my brother-in-law, my niece, my nephew, and, of course, my dad. So, it will be very nice to see them again. I've missed my sister and her family.

I'm sorry that I haven't written in this blog for a while. I've been busy working on my Redskins blog: Redskins Nation. We have some great posts on the blog and we have worked hard to make the blog great!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Faith Hill at CMAs: Farce or Fierce?

Country music superstar Faith Hill was caught on camera apparently screaming, “WHAT?!” after it was announced, Monday night on the CMA Awards, that newcomer Carrie Underwood won the award for female vocalist of the year instead of herself. Hill denies that she was angry and says that it was all just a playful joke. Her voice could not be heard but the video clearly shows that right before the winner’s name was announced, she struck a winning “tada” pose, and then became shocked and enraged after she realized that it was not her name that was called. It seems that she was entirely expecting for her name to be called and not Underwood’s name.

It was indeed a shock that Underwood won the award because she has been in the country music business for less then a year. The other four women – Hill, Sara Evens, Martina McBride and Gretchen Wilson – have been in the music business for far more combined years then years Underwood has been alive! So far she has released just one CD and has only 3 singles on the radio. While she does have genuine talent and enormous popularity, she doesn’t deserve to be named the top female country music singer just yet!

On Monday, Underwood also won the Horizon Award for best new country music artist. She probably does deserve this award. However, to give her the female vocalist of the year award too, is like a pro sports player winning both Rookie of the Year and the MVP. It just doesn’t happen, and I think it is at least a little disrespectful towards the four highly accomplished women that were also nominated.

But, that doesn’t mean Faith Hill’s reaction should be condoned. The reaction was indeed being a sore looser. If her reaction was as bona fide as it seemed, then she should own up to it and admit that she over reacted and apologize. She shouldn’t make up a lame excuse like she was just joking.

Redskins Win!!

What a game today! The Redskins defeated the Cowboys 22-19, but that score doesn't begin to tell the full tail. The game was full of lead changes, exciting plays, and three game winning field goal attempts! Yesterday, I wrote a post on the origin of the rivalry between the Redskins and Cowboys on Redskins Nation. John wrote a great post about the game, please go read our posts at Redskins Nation.

Always think before you speak

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

-- Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004

I am not one of those anti-Bush people, but this quote is one of the funniest verbal miscues, said by anyone, that I have ever heard. I don't know how they could have let him say that. If I was him, I'd be very embarrassed about all these blunders and make sure that I always stick to the script that had been written before hand.

Heavy Computing

Computers in the future may weigh no more then 1.5 tons.

-- Popular Mechanics, forcasting the relentless march of science, 1949

Hey, they were right! Computers now do weigh no more then 1.5 tons. Infact, they weigh far less! You can have a fully function computer that is about the size of large cell phone (large by today's standards).

Phone it in?

This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us.

-- Western Union internal memo, 1876

Well Western Union has changed their mind since this quote. Can't you wire money via telephone using Western Union? How could they be so blind as to not see the benefits and convenience of the telephone? On the other hand, I know that the phone of 1876 was a lot different back then. Hell, the phones of the 1990s were a lot different then phones now.

Way to go, Einstein!

"The word "genius" isn't applicable in football. A
genius is a guy like Norman Einstein."

-- Joe Theisman, Washington Redskins quarterback & sports analyst.

I always knew that Joe was a real history and science buff! I wonder if he thinks that the Theory of Relativity is what happens in West Virginia? He proves that you don't need to be smart to be a great NFL quarterback.

A Quote from the Close Minded

The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?

-- David Sarnoff's associates in response to his urging for investment in radio, 1920s

If they thought that about the radio, then I wonder what they would have thought about television and the Internet. These people seem to have been very close minded, but the radio was unlike anything else in it's time. I bet David was saying, "I told you so!" just a few years later.

Words of Wisdom

When a woman says nothing's wrong that means everything's wrong, and when a woman says everything's wrong that means EVERYTHING's wrong, and when a woman says something's not funny, you better not laugh your ass off!

-- Homer Simpson, Giving Bart some advice about women.

I just love Homer Simpson! He has made a lot of great quotes throughout the years. I like this quote because it is so true!! Sorry ladies, but you know it is true!

I am going to try to post a good quote and/or a joke every day. It wont be by Homer or any of the Simpsons every time, and it may not even be humorous every time. By the way, should anybody be offended by any post on this blog, please don't tell me because I don't care! If you don't like what I post then close your browser and never come back! I am fully entitled to say whatever I want to. Besides, this is really just for fun.
